Volunteering

When people think of volunteering for Habitat, they typically picture themselves wielding a hammer. To be sure, many volunteers are needed for construction--out-of-towners even come for Collegiate Challenge and summer work camps--but there are also countless other ways you can explore your interests or put your talents to work with Habitat. Volunteers perform office work, staff the ReStore, and serve on committees and the board of directors. More than 150 volunteers help stage our annual Sprint, Splash ’n Spin Triathlon. Youth ages 5 through 25 can join Youth United to understand more fully the issues surrounding poverty housing and become an active voice in Habitat's mission.

Please contact the Habitat office or print out and return a volunteer survey so that we can match your interests and abilities with the work that needs to be done.

Work Camps

From June to September, MCHFH hosts groups of people that want to come help us build homes. The groups, typically church youth groups, bring two very needed things to our mission: funds and volunteer labor. Groups are housed in local churches or schools and spend their days at the work site. The cost is $125 per person. These funds typically go toward the home they are working on during their stay. Spaces for work groups are limited, and each group is limited to 20 people, with one adult supervisor required for every 4 minors. Please e-mail or call the Habitat office at 304-292-0914 if you have a group interested in volunteering for a work camp in Monongalia County, West Virginia.
